3 Ways To Overcome a Bad January

We all look forward to starting off the new year with a clean slate and we are all loaded with enthusiasm. Yet, not everything goes to plan...BUT this is NOT your QUIT moment, this is your "I WILL HIT THE RESET BUTTON and Start Over" moment.

Here are 3 ways to Hit Your Reset Button:

#1 Self Accountability: Outside accountability, or lack thereof, doesn't necessarily work. It can lead to using others as part of the reason why you have or have not done what you set out to do. 

You are fully responsible for yourself. 

For me, I find that if I can't follow through and hold myself accountable then no outside influence can. It has to come from me. 

Action Item: Dedicate 1 calendar in your home as your Accountability Calendar

Here is a picture of mine...my self-rule is that I must write my exercise in every day, with a red marker. 

"S" for Swim

"Y" for Yoga

"S+Y" on days I did both

"OFF" when I took a day off 

"M" for Massage. It is all part of my self-care.

I loved seeing each day get its mark, I loved the snowball effect seeing multiple days get their mark. 

NO EXCUSES: calendars at the bookstore are half off now, so go grab one, start today 

#2 Move More: I put words around me that mean something, so, for example I put the words "move more" on my mantle for January and February (I change it bimonthly).

 

It is SO simple, Move More. What does that mean? 

Action Item: (so many possibilities...I am sure you can come up with more ways to move) 

**Take a parking space at the BACK OF THE PARKING LOT so you can get in more steps. 

**Skip the Drive Thru Coffee: get out of your car, walk in, greet someone, and walk back out...more steps. 

**Desk Dancing: Every hour get up from your desk, walk, DANCE, jump, MOVE somehow someway...yoga stretches at your desk, I am sure you can be creative.
*Just some of many options...

#3 January is in the PAST: INSTATE FUN! I know I have been guilty of being too serious, or placing "I can be happy when" criteria on my happiness levels...well...it IS a new year, which means a new you has to arise to create different results, despite January, we have a WHOLE NEW YEAR AHEAD OF US, this is NOT the time to quit. 

1st and Foremost to RESET......you must RELEASE Beating Yourself Up 

Action Items: 

**get a timer, set it for 5 minutes, to yell and scream any expletive you want, jump up and down punch a pillow about all the stuff you are mad at yourself about..let's get it out!

**next give yourself permission to MOVE FORWARD despite January's results.

**Ween yourself from wearing "everyday" black. Black can be heavy, and pull you downward, black is for mourning (although I do subscribe to 2 allowances for black, a SEXY evening gown OR some SASS lingerie)

Let's be honest...black is for hiding ...it is not the "slimming" color we all think it is. 

For you to step into fully LIVING now, choose a FUN COLOR! I know you got spunk, show it! (Now you know why I don't make black swimsuits)

And do this ESPECIALLY if you do not feel like it...FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT....get excited for the change, and then...JUST DO IT.
